Rome City Schools prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, abusive conduct or bullying on the basis of any protected category by the by the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and applicable federal, state or local laws or ordinances, including but not limited to Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII), Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), including, but not limited to, actual or perceived race or ethnicity, gender/sex (includes gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and pregnancy-related medical conditions), sexual orientation, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, immigration status, physical or mental disability, medical condition, military and veteran status, marital status, registered domestic partner status, age (40 and above), genetic information, political belief or affiliation (unless union related), a person's association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics in the educational programs or activities the District operates or in the District’s employment.

Any student, employee, applicant for employment, parent or other individual who believes he or she has been subjected to harassment or discrimination by other students or employees of the District based upon any of the factors listed above should promptly report the same to the principal of the school. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance, discrimination, harassment, intimidation, abusive conduct or bullying, or who participates in the complaint-filing or investigation process.

Questions regarding discrimination may alternatively be addressed to either U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, depending on the status of the complainant.
