ROME, GA - Rome City Schools students continued to show improvement on the 2022-2023 Georgia Milestones Assessments. Our students have shown growth in Developing and Above scores across both End of Grade (EOG) and End of Course (EOC) assessments. As we celebrate these achievements, we recognize that there is much work ahead on our path to becoming an exemplary school district.
With heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members, we are pleased to see improvements in six EOG areas and two EOC areas. Our collective efforts have yielded positive outcomes, inspiring us to continue our commitment to creating a nurturing and empowering learning environment for all students.
Dr. Eric L. Holland, Superintendent of Rome City Schools, shared his reflections on the data, saying, "The progress our students have made in the Georgia Milestones Assessments is a testament to their perseverance and the dedication of our educators. The goal is Growth. We are grateful for the growth we've seen, but we recognize the journey of improvement is ongoing."
At Rome City Schools, we view these milestones as stepping stones on our journey of continuous improvement. As we strive to become an exemplary school district, we remain dedicated to refining our instructional practices, fostering collaborative learning environments, and providing comprehensive support to each student.
“We are most excited for the coming year and the academic initiatives that we have put in place. Our goal is to empower every student to reach their fullest potential,” stated Dr. Barbara Patrick-Lashley, Deputy Superintendent of Rome City Schools. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Lashley, the district is committed to a transformative action plan for academic growth. The plan includes the introduction of academic coaches and interventionists, the formation of a Literacy Task Force, the implementation of the Literacy Before Life Initiative, and data-driven instructional strategies. With an unwavering emphasis on literacy, we will enhance performance in other academic areas. Focusing on personalized support, enhanced literacy initiatives, and data-guided decisions, Rome City Schools strives to foster a community of proficient readers, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners, ensuring an exceptional education for all.
As we move forward with the determination to embrace the challenges that lie ahead, Rome City Schools thanks all stakeholders who have contributed to our success. Together, we will continue to focus on fostering a culture of growth and creating opportunities for all students to thrive.
"Our collective efforts as a community are what make Rome City Schools special. It is with humility and a steadfast commitment to excellence that we embark on the next phase of our journey - growth," concluded Dr. Holland.
