Rome High School Senior Bo Bushnell has been selected to serve on the Georgia High School Association Student Advisory Council.
Bushnell is quite active at Rome High School both as an athlete and as a student.
Bushnell has a 4.52 GPA in the classroom. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Junior Civitan Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Skills USA, Student Ambassador, and Student Government Advisory Council. He serves as a huddle leader for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is the head male spokesperson for the Rome High Superintendent Student Advisory Council. He helped co-found the Communications Club, serves as the club’s Vice President, and is an anchor for the school newscast program, Wolf Den News.
Athletically, Bushnell competes in four sports for the Wolves. He is the team captain for cross country and golf and the team captain for distance on the track team. He also competes in swimming. Bushnell has earned All-Area honorable mention honors in cross country three times and swam a leg on the 200-meter medley relay team that competed at the Class 6A State Swimming and Diving Championships this winter.
Bushnell is a key component of the golf team which finished the year with an eighth-place finish at the Class 6A State Golf Tournament. Bushnell helped the team clinch its spot at the state tournament with a do-or-die par putt on the final hole at the sectional golf tournament. His putt forced a sudden death playoff which he and his team won to qualify for state.
“I chose Bo as Rome High School’s nominee because he exemplifies what I expect in our student-athletes. He is hard-working, dedicated, talented, smart, and driven. I know he will represent Rome High very well. He is an outstanding leader, and incredibly committed to academic and athletic pursuits,” Rome High Athletic Director Chris Boden wrote when nominating Bushnell for the council.
The student advisory council consists of 20 student-athletes from around the state with a male and female representative from each classification and four at-large members. Applications were submitted in the spring and scored by a panel based on answers to five questions.
The council will have its first meeting on Aug. 21 in Macon.
