Rome City Schools honored a national runner-up as well as its school board and the board heard all about Elm Street Elementary during Tuesday night’s Rome City Schools Board of Education meeting at the College and Career Academy at Rome High School.
The board approved the minutes and financial report as well as personnel decisions by a unanimous vote. They then learned that Rome High senior James Goble placed second in the nation in the FBLA Competition.
John Fricks, Director of Instructional Technology, Safety and Operations, presented the Keeping Schools Safe Video which shows the layers of safety Rome City Schools has implemented throughout the district.
Rome City Schools Board of Education was then honored for earning Exemplary Board status from the Georgia School Boards Association for the second consecutive year.
In the spotlight on schools segment, Elm Street Elementary Principal Lisa Strack talked about the many positives from Elm Street including a rise in test scores, an additional pre-k classroom, a focus on collaborative planning, and more. She also noted that the Elm Street Kids Enterprise program donated $500 to several community partners and that the school is serving 50 percent more gifted students this year. Strack said that she is proud to be part of Elm Street and praised her faculty and staff for the work they do every day.
Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland highlighted several big upcoming events for Rome City Schools including the Howl-o-Ween Literacy Festival set for Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Parent Resource Center and the Hispanic Heritage Fair set for Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Ridge Ferry Park from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
