Rome High School’s One Act Play, “Shuddersome: Tales of Poe”,  scared the competition on Saturday as the cast and crew captured the Region 5-5A Title and booked a spot in the upcoming Class 5A State Championships.

"I am so humbled to be part of these young people’s lives. We have grown so much in my four years at Rome High. They continue to amaze me every day with the determination and dedication to the craft of theatre,” Alexis Tyson, Rome High School Theatre Director, said.

The whole cast and crew have been hard at work for a while putting the production together. Last week, they performed the show three times at Rome High School in preparation for the competition and allowed everyone a chance to see the show.

Along with the region title, the crew and cast captured other awards at the region competition. Noah Beard earned Region 5-5A Beat Lead Actor while Emerson Hunter and Millie Maloney were both named to the All-Star Cast. The crew also were named Region 5-5A Best Ensemble.

“Over these last four years, I've seen our department grow beyond what I could've imagined. Mrs. Tyson, along with our students and alumni, have built this program from the ground up, and I'm so proud that this hard work has culminated in our win this year,” Liz Suffill, Rome high Thespian Society President and a member of the cast, said.

The cast and crew of the production includes Alyssa Austin, Juliette Whittington, Liam Samples, Alex Stoll, Hannah Stendalen, Claire Mendes, Liz Suffill, Noah Beard, Millie Maloney, Joy Martin, Lilly Blanchard, Montana Boggs, David Alberto Orellana Martinez, Juju Jensen, Garrett McPherson, Annelise Ashley-Pritchett, Annabelle Turner, Emerson Hunter, Laethan Day, Isabella Boutwell, Zoey Goss, and Ash Green.

The Class 5A State One Act Play Championships is set for Saturday, Nov. 16 at Cambridge High School.
