Rome City Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. Kate Thomas has been named the new principal of Main Elementary School. 

With more than two decades of experience in education and a proven track record of dynamic leadership, Dr. Thomas brings a student-centered approach and a deep commitment to excellence to her new role.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to become Main Elementary School’s principal. I know that Main has a rich history of excellence,” Dr. Thomas says. “I’m proud to be a part of this journey moving forward.”

Dr. Thomas most recently served as Superintendent of the Polk School District, where she led over 1,100 staff members and 7,800 students across a range of academic and operational initiatives.

Her focus on instructional innovation, career readiness, and community engagement helped drive significant gains in student achievement. Under her leadership, several schools posted their highest-ever scores in key accountability areas on the state’s College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI).

“Helping students succeed is my passion, and I think we have a remarkable opportunity to move students ahead,” Dr. Thomas says. “Rome City Schools is well known for its academic achievements as well as its excellence in the arts. I am ecstatic and happy to be a part of it and to be able to help contribute in a small part to the ultimate success of our students at Main Elementary.”

Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has championed initiatives that prepare students for success in academics and life, including founding the district’s Project SUCCESS program, launching work-based learning partnerships with local industries, and founding the Polk County College and Career Academy.

She brings a wealth of expertise in curriculum development, staff training, and strategic planning to Rome City Schools.

As she steps into her new role as principal at Main Elementary, Dr. Thomas is excited to build strong partnerships with families, staff, and the community to support the growth and success of every student.
