Rome City Schools is proud to announce that West Central Elementary School has officially exited the Georgia Promise Scholarship Public School List, a major milestone that reflects sustained improvement in teaching, learning, and student achievement.
West Central Elementary’s removal from the list marks a significant turnaround and a powerful testament to the commitment of its educators, students, and families.
Released by the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA), the Promise Scholarship Public School List identifies schools performing in the lowest 25 percent statewide based on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).
West Central Elementary posted a CCRPI score of 80.4, demonstrating substantial academic growth and placing the school well above the state’s lowest-performing threshold.
“This accomplishment belongs to our teachers, students, and families who refused to accept labels and instead focused on what matters most: student success,” West Central Principal McKensey Wheeler says. “Our staff showed unwavering belief in our children, and this moment reflects the hard work, resilience, and heart that define West Central.”
In addition to West Central’s achievement, Rome City Schools is celebrating notable progress across the district:
Main Elementary School increased its CCRPI score from 45.5 to 66.1, a dramatic gain that reflects instructional focus and steady leadership.
Rome Middle School posted continued improvement, with an increase in its CCRPI score.
Rome City Schools’ districtwide CCRPI score rose from 70.7 to 73.1, marking the third consecutive year of district improvement.
“These results tell a powerful story about momentum,” Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland says. “West Central’s exit from the Promise List is a defining moment for our district, but it’s also part of a strategic effort to increase achievement in all of our schools. Three straight years of CCRPI growth confirm that our focus on strong instruction, accountability, and belief in our students is making a real difference.”
While acknowledging the limitations of a single test score, district leaders emphasized that Rome City Schools met the state’s accountability expectations and continues to raise the bar for student achievement.
