Rome City Schools is once again inviting parents, grandparents, and caregivers to head back to the classroom as RCS Parent University returns for the 2026-2027 school year.
Parent University provides families with practical information, resources, and tools to help them become even stronger partners in their students' education. Throughout the school year, participants will have opportunities to attend classes covering four different areas: the Academic Pathway, Special Education Pathway, Life Readiness and Wellness Pathway, and the Elevating Relationships Pathway.
Parents, grandparents, and caregivers of Rome City Schools students who attend at least 10 qualifying Parent University classes during the school year will be eligible to graduate from RCS Parent University during a special graduation ceremony in the late spring.
"Parent University is about giving our families another way to be actively involved in their children's education," Rome City Schools Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland said. "Our schools are at their best when families and educators work together. We want parents, grandparents and caregivers to have access to information and resources that can help them support their students both inside and outside the classroom."
The first Parent University opportunities of the school year begin in August at the Rome City Schools Parent Resource Center, located at 200 Hardy Avenue.
Infinite Campus Parent Portal Help sessions will be offered Aug. 18 and Aug. 25 at 9:30 a.m. The sessions are part of the Academic Pathway and will provide families with assistance using the district's Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Rome-Floyd Communities In Schools will also offer Parent Volunteer and Mentor Training on Aug. 20 and Aug. 27 at noon. Those sessions are also part of the Academic Pathway and will be held at the Parent Resource Center.
"One of the great things about Parent University is that it isn't just one class or one topic," Laura Bucio, Family Engagement Coordinator for Rome City Schools, said. "Families can participate throughout the year and find sessions that meet their needs, whether they want to better understand academics, learn more about available resources, or find new ways to support their children. We want Parent University to be a place where every family feels welcome."
Last spring, Rome City Schools celebrated its first Parent University graduating class, recognizing participants who made the commitment to attend sessions and become more engaged in their students' education.
Additional Parent University classes and opportunities will be announced throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
