New Rome Middle School: A Beacon of Excellence in Academics, Arts, and Athletics Rome, GA - Rome City Schools is delighted to share a significant development regarding the construction of the new Rome Middle School. The project, under the leadership of Superintendent Dr. Eric L. Holland, has overcome challenges and transformed into an educational marvel that will provide outstanding opportunities in Academics, Arts, and Athletics for the community. One of the most noteworthy achievements of this project is the establishment of the Guaranteed Maximum Price of $108,000,000 for construction, demonstrating our commitment to responsible spending and delivering a state-of-the-art facility within budget. As we move forward, Rome City Schools wants to emphasize the immense value this investment holds for the entire community. Design Characteristics that Inspire Excellence: 1,900 Student Capacity: The new Rome Middle School is designed to accommodate up to 1,900 students, ensuring that every child in our community has access to a quality education. Spacious Environment: This 306,414 square foot, 2-story building offers ample space for learning, providing students with an environment conducive to their growth and development. Diverse Learning Opportunities: With 6 Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) classrooms/labs, the school will foster innovation and hands-on learning ensuring our students are well-prepared for the future. Fine Arts Space: Approximately 20,000 square feet dedicated to Fine Arts will give our students the opportunity to explore their artistic talents and engage in creative expression. State-of-the-Art Auditorium: A 500-seat auditorium equipped with theatrical audio/visual systems will serve as a hub for cultural enrichment, allowing our community to showcase their talents and celebrate the arts. Impressive Athletics Facilities: The inclusion of a competition gymnasium with a seating capacity of 1,094, an auxiliary gymnasium, baseball/softball fields with artificial turf, a football/soccer multipurpose field with natural grass, and dedicated locker rooms reaffirms our commitment to nurturing the physical and competitive spirit of our students. Safety First: The new Rome Middle School will also include a storm shelter designed to accommodate occupancy loads per code, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students during unforeseen events. Innovative Cost-Effective Measures: To address concerns and reduce costs while maintaining the integrity of the project, we made notable scope changes, including: Removal of Multi-Sport Stadium: We made the difficult decision to remove the proposed multi-sport 2,000-seat stadium, track, and artificial turf field to ensure that the project remains within budget while still providing top-tier facilities for academics, arts, and athletics. Relocation of the Media Center: The media center was moved from the third floor to the second floor to help cut construction costs. Optimized Space: We reconfigured the school building layout to reduce square footage by 34,609 square feet without eliminating any academic programs. This space optimization has allowed us to allocate resources more efficiently. Storm Shelter Refinement: The size of the storm shelter has been reduced to match the capacity of the building, providing a safe environment in compliance with the highest standards. Efficient Site Layout: We have redesigned the site layout to significantly reduce the amount of site retaining walls, optimizing construction costs and creating a more sustainable campus. Cost-Efficient Materials: Other minor changes in materials and construction details have been implemented to reduce the overall cost of the project without compromising quality. As we embark on this journey to build the new Rome Middle School, we want our community to see the immense value it brings. This facility will be a testament to Rome City Schools' unwavering commitment to providing our students with a well-rounded education, fostering their academic, artistic, and athletic aspirations. The new Rome Middle School will be a shining example of progress and promise for our students and the community at large.

🎃 Family Tip Tuesday: Spooktacular Halloween Edition! 🎃 Today's tip: Safety First & Supervise and Connect Plan ahead for a safe Halloween adventure. Choose costumes that are visible in the dark, add reflective elements, and arm your trick-or-treaters with flashlights. Remind them to follow traffic rules and stay close to familiar areas. Young children should be accompanied by an adult during trick-or-treating. For older kids going with friends, set clear guidelines for staying together and checking in regularly. Wishing you a Halloween filled with delight and safety! 🕷️👻🍬 #FamilyTipTuesday

Check out the Weather Update below regarding the cold weather we are expecting over the next few days! #ReimagineRCS
about 1 year ago, John Fricks
A “Halloween Freeze” is very likely according to National Weather Service. Estimates vary but temps could reach 28°. Students should dress in warm clothes if they are waiting at a bus stop on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Take steps to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Protect outdoor animals and bring in your small pets. Tuesday night could get down to 29 degrees. Wednesday night could get down to 27 degrees.
