Congratulations to Phoenix Learning Academy's Za'Riyah Turner for securing a scholarship offer at last weekend's Black College Expo! ZaRiyah was awarded a $1000 scholarship from Kel Mitchell (Mr. Good Burger) and offered an $8000 scholarship up-front for her grades if she applied to the college. PLC Site Coordinator, Ms. Gail Veal chaperoned the students as they received a lot of great information. Some of the college representatives looked at student transcripts, asked the students questions, and gave them tips on applying for college and scholarships. The students attended two workshops on “How to Find Money for College” and “Meet the Presidents," where the students had a chance to hear from and meet a few college presidents. They were able to sit down with the presidents and ask questions about their expectations. The event ended with a step show, and the students reported they had a great time. We can't wait to take them back next year! Thank you Ms. Veal for taking the students to this great opportunity!

Rome City Schools Resumes Wolf Power Workouts for Spring March 7, 2023 – Rome, GA - Beginning March 7, Rome Middle School Football will host Wolf Power Workouts. In its fifth year, Wolf Power is a program that helps busy parents get young Wolves to practice and get extra help with assignments in the classroom. The program began in 2018, after Rome High School Head Football Coach John Reid noticed that Rome City’s elementary school students were having a hard time getting to athletics practice. In response, community members and RCS coaches stepped up to provide transportation to practice. Students who want to participate in sports now have the means to get to practice and are also afforded time after school to study with a tutor. Since its inception, Reid says the district now has enough players for 6th grade football. Before Wolf Power, there were no students from Anna K. Davie playing 6th grade ball. Wolf Power is not just about athletics, but academics as well. Volunteers and staff host study groups where the young athletes can work on homework and go over material they may not have mastered in class. After the study session, buses pick up the athletes from school and take them to practice. The Wolf Power Program allows the students to get home earlier in the evening. Having already gotten help with and possibly completed all homework assignments, they are able to get adequate rest and additional instruction, which translates to better success in class. Wolf Power Workouts will begin Tuesday March 7th and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until Spring Break. 6th graders will meet at RMS from 4pm- 5pm. 4th and 5th graders will meet at Main Elementary from 3:15pm - 4:30pm, Students will be transported from each elementary school to the workout location. To enroll your child, request a signup sheet at the front office of your home elementary school.
